AOA Site Takeover
« on: December 05, 2017, 01:53:52 PM »
Neither Bill or I are able to devote the time and resources the site needs.

Is anyone interested in taking it over?

I'm interested in helping out as well.
I'm plenty computer savvy but have never managed a forum before..

What's the scoop anyways? Pay the yearly fee, update the owners list and approve new members? Stuff like this?

I've also noticed the site is hacked when accessed from mobile. Links to the home page, not the forum, are redirected to a spam advertising site.
I'd like to solve this issue this winter as well.

Thanks for all your hard work over the years Bill and Salty!

Let me know if I can help

Jeff

I could assist from a technical perspective.
I have current experience with Joomla (manage half a dozen sites) and I see this is a Joomla site. I've just finished upgrading several sites from much older versions to current.

What I don't have time for is updating content or moderating the forum - just not enough hours in the day lol.

Progress!

Website has been rebuilt in WordPress and forum upgraded to current version.

As with any significant upgrade there may be a few lingering issues...
If anything unexpected rears it's head please contact me via this forum or the contact form on the main website.

Once again, a big thank you to Sawlty and Bill for rescuing this valuable resource after the passing of Keith Denham so many years ago.

I am delighted to hear that the site is in capable hands.  As an original A32 owner, I have enjoyed and learned from folks on this site for many years.   A great shout out to the guys who have managed it so well these lasts years and to the new guys with the skills and interest to keep it going, even as our boats get older and our numbers fewer.  I hope Sawlty and Bill will continue to participate.  Bruce

Thanks to the volunteers who have maintained this site, and to those who have offered to take it over. Your effort and time is appreciated!

I know I'm coming into this discussion a bit late but I'm wondering if you have thought of bringing this forum over into SBO (Sail Boat Owners)?

https://forums.sailboatowners.com/index.php

They have discussion groups for specific boats, maybe Aloha could also be one. I know for myself, I would the drop into the Aloha discussions more frequently. Just a thought, and I really have no idea if something like this could even be possible.

Thank you to everyone involved in this forum over the years. Your dedication has kept an interest alive that would have otherwise fizzled out.
When I dropped by tonight I was surprised by the amazing new look.
Awesome job folks.
Thanks so much!
