A week of superb sunny summer weather culminated in another great Aloha event, the Summer Sail-In here on the BC Coast. Not that any particular agenda was planned, that's the fun part. All the good stuff just seemed to happen! The event took place in Annette Inlet on Prevost Island, one of the prettiest, safest, and easily accessible anchorage's in the area. There were 4 boats in all, all in tip top shape and looking every bit the prettiest boats around ( of course we're a bit biased) There were Dennis Clarke and a British guest (Andrew Bebbington, who some of you will have met at the July 2000 gathering) on "Polaris" ( Aloha 28 (8.5) ), Keith and Sally Denham on "Bliss" ( Aloha 28 (8.5)), Ros Bangham and Joy Davidson on "Blueberry Hill" (Aloha 27 (8.2), ex "Peregrine", ex "Oh Baby Oh Baby"), and Kelly and Val on "Against the Wind" (Aloha 27 (8.2)). We also befriended a couple of neophyte powerboaters.

Some of the memorable things about the weekend included:

  • Helping out and meeting the power boat folk
  • Keith, Sally, Kelly and Val meeting the others for the first time, and Dennis, Ros and Joy meeting up again.
  • The progressive boat dinner that started off at about 4:00 with drinks, appetisers on one boat, Dinner on another and desserts and chatter on yet another.
  • The great new dessert recipe called "Tiffen" that Sally provided
  • Comparing all the various boats and checking out how beautiful they all looked.
  • Ros trying out his new crab pot.
  • Teaching Ross how to kill and clean crabs. (Ya gotta be a man!)
  • Teaching Sally and Keith how to EAT crabs! ( Ya can't worry about being messy!)
  • The drifter Keith and Sally so proudly sailed off their anchor with. It's a white sail with a large outline of a Canadian maple leaf, filled in with a Union Jack. Very fitting for Keith and Sally since they only recently moved here from Britain. The sail came with the boat and they didn't know what it looked like until the first time they flew it!
  • Spending countless hours ferrying back and forth from boat to boat visiting and chatting.
  • The great hot sunny weather and the fantastic sail to get there, we didn't want to come in!
  • Four of the prettiest boats in the harbour, although the classic bow-spritted Yawl was pretty nice!
  • The fun, the food, the people, the camaraderie and the plans for another get-together as soon as possible!

We all had a great time and look forward to more of the same in the future, for those who missed this one, perhaps you'll be able to get in on the fun next time. We certainly look forward to seeing you.
