Names Explained

Kahili Ginger - Jeff DeRosa (now owned by Thomas Kalweit)

'Kahili Ginger’ is a registered name, and also the name of a South Pacific flower. Native to Hawaii, and the reason it was chosen for the name of an ‘aloha’. While revered in Hawaii, it is considered a weed in New Zealand!

Webmasters Note
A while after we included this item we received an email from Hina, a botany student at the University of Hawaii, who advised that the plant is not native to Hawaii or revered there. Apparently it is an invasive weed native to India and is causing similar problems in Hawaii to those faced in NZ, resulting in extreme damage to the watersheds.
