Names Explained

Ondine - Tom Schraeder

My A28 was named Sonset when I purchased her several years ago.  I wasn't particularly happy with the name as it had no real meaning to me.  So, despite the "hazards" I re-christened her "Ondine."  There are several versions of the source and meaning of this name, but suffice it to say that the Ondine Myth was the basis for the "Little Mermaid" fairy tale.  Also, Ondine is the title of a play by George Giraudoux which I worked on many years ago about a mermaid that lures a man to the sea but depends on that man's love for her own life.  So being a theatre person and a sailor, Ondine feels very right.

There is a brief, perhaps more clear explanation at:

Tom Schraeder - Ondine - A28 #23 (I challenge the search for an earlier number.)
