Names Explained

Shakey Jake - Tom & Sue Schneiter

When I found our Aloha, her name was Chablis.  That had to change.  Shakey Jake (AKA Aloha 32 #59) was named by my daughter after a beloved street character in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Shakey Jake has been a presence there since 1949, appearing from nowhere and never leaving.  During the period when I lived in Ann Arbor, 1971-75, and to the present day, Jake made his living by selling T-shirts with his own picture on them, as well as some other stuff.  Most recently, he has been selling a videotape of himself performing and philosophizing.  Although I never would have thought of the name, myself, upon reflection it seemed to be perfectly appropriate.

Here is an article about Shakey Jake: http://www.pub.umich.edu/daily/1998/apr/04-09-98/arts/arts5.html

I'd attach a picture of my daughter with Jake, but some IT guy deleted it from my hard drive....
