FREQUENT QUESTIONS / PROBLEMS |
5TOP |
| In
general, the Aloha range are regarded as solidly constructed and reliable
boats, and have few recurring problems. The following articles cover the
topics which have come up most frequently on the Aloha Discussion List. |
Water
in the Keel and/or Rudder - water sometimes gets trapped in
"voids" in the keel and/or rudder of Aloha 27 (8.2), 28 (8.5)
and 34 (10.4) models. See:
Solution 1 -
How to Fill The Voids to
prevent water collecting OR

| Osmosis/Blisters
- Alohas don't seem to suffer as badly from blisters as many other boats
of a similar age, but the Yachtsurvey.com
articles on osmosis & blisters
probably contain the
authoritative answers to any questions you have on the subject. Also
see Clarence Dumouchelle's
website for details of a bottom-peeling machine, also available as

Lightning
- Correspondence on the Aloha List drew attention to the risks of
lightning strikes. Opinions of owners and quoted professional advisors
varied widely between recommending that a comprehensive grounding system
is essential, and the view that such a system may actually increase the
likelihood of a strike! Our thanks to Bill and Francine Smith for sending
in a copy of the following article on the subject.
Lightning - the author of
this particular article does favour having a grounding system.
Also see the website of Strikeshield
who market lightning protection systems, for more information. |
