ALOHA HISTORY  
Brief History of Ouyang Boat Works / Aloha Yachts - by Dennis Clarke, based on letters from Mao Ouyang, son of the founder Ti Ouyang. Includes photos of the Aloha works taken by Migs Turner in 1982 and by Paul and Julie Bukowski in 1985.
MOST FREQUENT QUESTIONS / PROBLEMS 5TOP
In general, the Aloha range are regarded as solidly constructed and reliable boats, and have few recurring problems. The following articles cover the topics which have come up most frequently on the Aloha Discussion List.
Water in the Keel and/or Rudder - water sometimes gets trapped in "voids" in the keel and/or rudder of Aloha 27 (8.2), 28 (8.5) and 34 (10.4) models. See:

Replace the Stuffing Box with a PSS (Packless Sealing System) Shaft Seal
Osmosis/Blisters - Alohas don't seem to suffer as badly from blisters as many other boats of a similar age, but the Yachtsurvey.com articles on osmosis & blisters probably contain the authoritative answers to any questions you have on the subject. Also see Clarence Dumouchelle's website for details of a bottom-peeling machine, also available as a mobile service at reasonable rates.

Lightning - Correspondence on the Aloha List drew attention to the risks of lightning strikes. Opinions of owners and quoted professional advisors varied widely between recommending that a comprehensive grounding system is essential, and the view that such a system may actually increase the likelihood of a strike! Our thanks to Bill and Francine Smith for sending in a copy of the following article on the subject.
