Hello, I am the new owner of Aloha 30 #15. The "book" rating of the '30 is 144. My boat, as is, is carrying a 140% roller furled genoa. Does anyone know if the base rating of 144 is for that or a standard 150% non-furled sail?

Thanks for any info that would be helpful in my club establishing the proper handicap.

Hi Mark,

I'm not sure what "book" you're referring to, on Lake Ontario the base rating for the A30 is 150 flying sails (assumes "normal" race configuration of 155% LP genoa, 180% symmetrical spinnaker, and folding prop) and 168 no flying sails.

PHRF districts then apply credits and debits to the base rating for oversized and undersized sails, prop types, and other unique features i.e. I get a credit of 4 seconds for using a 135% genoa but also a 9 second hit for an oversized 215% spinnaker.

Hope this helps...
