A28 backstay adjustable?
« on: April 03, 2019, 08:24:40 AM »
The backstay on my A28 is fixed, but I'm wondering if they came from the factory that way or were they originally adjustable. Does anyone have an adjustable backstay on their A28/8.5? If so, using what system?

Thanks.

I added a tensioner to mine to help reduce headstay sag.  The backstay was already split, so I added a backstay double block and then an 8:1 purchase.  It's not overly beefy so I don't crank down too hard on it but it really helped sailing upwind.  I don't have a photograph but when I do I'll post it.  (hmmm, reason to go down and look at the boat this weekend ....)

Good to know.  Thanks! I could definitely use a couple of extra degrees ;)

And from another angle.

Yes, the other two holes were the first mounting attempt.  Too far aft.  Sealed up with epoxy and need a coat of gelcoat to blend in.

Great, thanks. I'd have to get a longer backstay I think.
