Anyone sailed an A27 in west bc?
« on: December 07, 2006, 05:55:53 PM »
The winds are pretty good in the area around west of vancouver island, but the seas are sometimes 5 to 6 metres high.
Anyone in BC sailed there with an A27 or similar size/keel type boat? I've practiced a lot on quick-reefing and waters just 10 feet high. Also got the gale-sail thing that I can hoist up from a bag (so I don't have to dance on the fore-deck to put in a storm sail). 10 ft swells the boat handles pretty well, although there's a lot of rolling if i'm on a broad reach. What should I expect in 15 to 20 ft swells? What would I need to prep for it?  I've seen a 20 ft Goman express just easily handling 15 ft swells and its abou the same profile under-water as an A27... so would the A27 perform similarly in 15 to 20ft swells?

Any advice would be helpful.
